Nam Yun Kim Nam Yun Kim started to play violin at the age of 6 and shortly became recognized as a child prodigy. By the age of nine she has won the Ewha & KyungHyang Concours. After graduating from the Seoul Arts High School, she continued her study at Juilliard School of Music with Ivan Galamian and Felix Galimir. Her career took off after being awarded first prize in the 1974 Tibor Varga International Competition in Switzerland, which did not have the first prize for a long time. She was invited to perform at many internationally renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Kennedy Center and Sydney Opera House and other major concert halls in Europe and Asia. She also performed with major orchestras throughout the world including St. Petersburg Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, Zagreb Radio Symphony and many others worldwide. Despite her busy concert and touring schedules, Nam Yun Kim has dedicated much of her time to teaching. She returned to Korea and became the youngest violin professor in Korea in 1977. Born in Hangzhou, China, Qian Zhou had her early training at the Shanghai Conservatory, winning first prize in the China National Competition in 1984. Garlitsky received his first music lessons from his father, the author of the standard textbook for young violinists “Step by Step”. He is a native of New York City and former chair of the violin department at The Juilliard School. He has been a member of the Juilliard String Quartet since 1986, and the ensemble’s leader since 1997. The Quartet, founded in 1947, has become a living American legend and won four GRAMMY Awards. Formerly the group’s second violinist, Mr. Smirnoff attended the University of Chicago and The Juilliard School and was a member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra for six years. Second Prize-winner in the International American Music Competition in 1983, he made his New York recital debut in 1985 at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall as part of the Emerging Artists series and at Town Hall as part of the Midtown Masters series. In 1997, he was featured violin soloist at Tanglewood in a concert dedicated to the memory of violinist Louis Krasner, performing the Berg Violin Concerto under the direction of Bernard Haitink. Prince Hitachi. He became the focus of attention in Japan at the age of 17, after clinching three first prizes at the competitions. He started playing the violin at the age of six at the Georges Enescu music school. In 1978 he attended the Juilliard School Pre-College division, studying with Shirley Givens. In 1989 he went on to study at the Peabody Conservatory of Music where his principal teachers were Sylvia Rosenberg and Herbert Greenberg. He also worked closely with pianist Leon Fleisher, and violinists Berl Senofsky and Valery Klimov. Four years later, he graduated as the only “straight A” student by then and started career as the soloist in China Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra. Two years later, he pursued further studies at Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto), Canada and Indiana University in the United States respectively with the world famous violin master and teacher Joseph Gngold, and also other violinists such as Yoval Yaron, Jame Laredo, Victor Denchenko. Won the first prize in the competition in Canada Music Festival in February 1986, Zhang Ti was awarded with the “Prize of Excellent Youth” and the “Prize of Young Specialist” by the prime minister himself. Having been awarded in many international competitions within which the most exceptional experience is being the only Chinese prize winner in the 9TH Tchaikovsky International Violin Competition in 1990 held in Moscow in collaboration with Moscow Symphony Orchestra, Zhang Ti was later called by Soviet Radio Broadcast Station as “an young musician with a profound understanding of Tchaikovsky’s works and has promising future”. She eventually entered the piano department of the Central Conservatory of Music to study under Professor Guo Zhi Hong in 1993. Xiaoxuan has won numerous international and national competitions including the sixth prize of Singapore International Violin Competition in 2018, the Grand Prize of Adelphi Yong Artist international Competition, the First Prize of New York Vivo International Music Competition, the First Prize of Chengdu Guang Ya International Violin Competition in 2017, the First Prize of the Singapore National Violin Competition in 2013, and the Third Prize of the China National Violin Competition in 2009. Mr. Ashkenasi has toured the former Soviet Union twice and concertized extensively in Europe, Israel, the Far East, and the United States, and he has collaborated with Rudolf Serkin, Thomas Hampson, Murray Perahia, Peter Serkin, and Menahem Pressler. As first violin of the famed Vermeer Quartet, he has gained a reputation as one of the world's outstanding chamber musicians. From 1969 until 2007, Mr. Ashkenasi was professor of music and artist-in-residence at Northern Illinois University, and, for the last several years, he taught at Roosevelt University in Chicago.
